What we teach

Lessons on the instruments in a band

A lesson is 30 or 45 minutes. It can be private or shared, on its own or beside a band.

  • Guitar

Electric and acoustic. Chords and riffs first, then rhythm and lead parts, with songs you know.

  • Bass

Locking in with the drummer, finding the root and keeping the groove steady.

  • Drums

Grip, groove and fills on a kit and a practice pad, with a metronome and a band to play with.

  • Keys

Chords, bass lines and parts that fit a band, from a first scale to a solo.

  • Vocals

Finding your range, breathing and singing into a microphone in a band that is playing loud.

  • Songwriting

Putting words and a chord progression together, and bringing it to your band.

A lesson

What happens in a lesson

  1. 01

    Step 1: A warm-up

A few minutes on the things you already know, so your hands and ears are ready.

  2. 02

    Step 2: New material

Something new to learn, shown slowly and then at speed, with your own songs mixed in.

  3. 03

Step 3: A plan for the week

Your teacher writes down what to practice, and your band's set is part of it.

At home

What to have at home

A guitar or bass that stays in tune, a practice pad and sticks, or a keyboard, is enough to begin. Ask your teacher before you buy or rent; the rehearsal rooms have amps and a drum kit.

How rental works is on the tuition page.
